If you do not want others to be able to run executable files on your machine, there is something you can do about it: you can password protect the executables of your choice. That is precisely the sort of functionality you can expect to get from the appropriately named Exe Password. Take an executable, use Exe Password to put a password on it, and when someone tries to run the executable, a prompt to type in the correct password shows up.

The Exe Password installation file is only 1.2MB in size, so it won’t take long for the download to complete. The setup wizard that shows up when you run the installation file is straightforward and takes little time to go through. Exe Password can be installed on Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

There are two ways to use Exe Password. The first one is to run the application, and from its interface choose the file you want to password protect. The interface is quite simple; so simple that even novices will immediately feel at home. You just have to use the Search button to find the file you want to protect, type and retype the password, and then let Exe Password do its job.

The second way to use the Exe Password application is via the right click context menu. You see, the application integrates with Windows Explorer; so when you right click an executable file, you will see a Password Protection option in the context menu. Select Password Protection and Exe Password’s main interface will show up and you can quickly and easily password protect the file.

Please note that Exe Password is only free to try: a password is stored for no longer than 30 days in the trial version.

You can easily password protect the executable files of your choice, either from Exe Password’s main interface, or by using the right click context menu.

Pros

Lightweight download and simple installation process. Exe Password integrates with Windows Explorer, so you can access the application by right clicking an executable. Simple interface that’s very easy to use. The user can access the executable protected by Exe Password only if he provides the right password.

Cons

The trial version stores a password for 30 days max. The password protected file can still be deleted.
